50th Anniversary of the First-Plymouth Handbells

First-Plymouth will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the First-Plymouth Handbells with a special community concert in the sanctuary at 7:00pm, Saturday, April 6, as well as other activities throughout the weekend.

The free concert, titled “Then and Now,” will feature music ranging from music played in church 50 years ago to more recent pieces.

“We went back through old service bulletins from the spring of 1974 and found three pieces that were played that very first year. The first half of the concert also will include four pieces from the earlier years of bells at our church. The second half of the concert will feature more recent original compositions, ranging from the moving ‘Transitions of the Heart’ to arrangements from Rachmaninoff to Led Zeppelin,” said First-Plymouth Handbell Director Christopher Boilesen.

The Plymouth Ringers and Bell Chorum, along with some ringing alumni, will present at the 5:30pm service on Saturday prior to the 7:00pm concert in the sanctuary. Choirs and alumni will also ring at the 9:00am & 10:30am services on Sunday, April 7.
