Academic Bible Study: The Beloved Disciple and the Gospel of Mary

Sundays, February 5 – March 5, 11:30am-12:30pm, Tower Room. Led by Dr. Leah Cech, Doane University

For our first Sunday Bible study series of the new year, we will explore the Gospel of Mary, which is a book outside of the Christian canon (meaning it was historically not counted as part of the sacred scriptures contained in the Bible), and is counted among other Gnostic writings. Who is Mary Magdalene? Some scholars and believers condemn her character, while others claim she is the “beloved disciple” of Jesus mentioned in the Gospel of John. Join us for this 5-week series as we explore Gospel texts and non-canonical writings to learn more about gnosticism and the early Christian writers.
