Concert for Harmony: Lincoln Literacy Benefit

As it works to assist refugees fleeing horrific conditions in Afghanistan and Ukraine, Lincoln Literacy will present a free concert to the community at 7 p.m., Thursday, May 12 at First Plymouth Church, 2000 D St., in Lincoln. Musicians from here and elsewhere will come together to donate their talents for the benefit of our organization’s work.

“The Concert for World Harmony" will remind those attending of the finest traits of humanity. In response to the turmoil overseas, the concert will draw on the goodness of heart that moves us to take in the outcast and provide them food, a place to sleep, and the education to remake their lives among us.

The concert will feature vocal and chamber music with an emphasis on world folk music. A Norwegian folk song will be translated into English. Selections will speak to the importance of community, home, and love – sentiments that are more important than ever.

Organized by Lincoln Literacy's Assistant Director for Adult Skills Development Julie Grieves, who is also an adjunct professor of voice, the concert also will draw attention to Lincoln Literacy’s Give to Lincoln campaign, which began Sunday and will conclude on May 26 (www.lincolnliteracy.org). No tickets are needed, but we’d appreciate it if you’d let us know of your plans to attend.
