Energize!

PART 1

Wednesday, May 26, 6:00-7:00pm ONLINE via Zoom
Presented by Dr. Michael Wysession
Zoom Link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/82022903013

Many Nebraska communities are looking to a renewable-energy future as we work to strengthen the economy, reduce unemployment, and minimize carbon emissions. Learn about the pros and cons of various energy sources, including their differing impacts on human health, agriculture, economic strength, and job opportunities.

Dr. Michael Wysession, a geophysics professor at Washington University in St. Louis and an expert on energy, will review options to generate and store electricity, including some that may prove surprising.

Energy landscapes have shifted dramatically over the past 20 years, but what has remained constant is the steadily increasing human need for energy, now consumed at a rate of 20 trillion watts (equivalent to 100 billion 100-watt lightbulbs burning constantly). With almost 8 billion humans on Earth, every energy choice we make will have large consequences and impacts for human health and the health of the planet’s plants and animals, but exciting new engineering breakthroughs are offering many pathways to reducing these impacts while growing our economy at the same time.

PART 2

Thursday, June 17, 6:00-7:00pm ONLINE via Zoom
Presented by Marc Shkolnick, Energy Services Manager, Lincoln Electric Service
Zoom Link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/82022903013

Would you like to reduce carbon emissions and reduce energy costs for your home, small business, or small rental properties, but aren't sure where to begin? Our expert presenter will outline the steps that provide the greatest benefits, and how to get started with some specific steps, such as adding solar panels, adding a heat pump, or buying an electric vehicle. Marc Shkolnick, Energy Services Manager for Lincoln Electric Service, uses an interactive Jeopardy-style game to help audience members sort out their smartest energy moves. Grab your smartphone to play from home, or just follow along on this fun educational experience. Marc’s presentation is for all electricity consumers and not specific to LES.
